Snow Day Survival Kit While ALBB Finishes Her Media Kit and Brings you Zionist-Inspired Attack-On-Iran Analysis

Alright. It’s a Snow Day ☃️ in Beacon, so we are going to bring you a news sources on the Zionist inspired U.S./Israel unprovoked and illegal attack on Iran, that Iran is now responding to and defending itself from while ALBB finishes her Media Kit that explains how we work and how you can reach our readers.

ALBB also has client videos to stitch together to bring you into local businesses like HVAC/Heating/Cooling company Shelter Air 🌱 and Cigar on Main to see how they work and how you can celebrate and benefit from them.

Also, an amAzing interview with Andrameda who performs in drag 💃🏽 at The Roosevelt Bar at the Hudson Valley Food Hall every Friday night. But first, home-brewed coffee ☕️from Kitchen and Coffee from beans that may be new (or new to ALBB) and the house-brand No. Six Depot, “The Sun Also Rises,” available from @kitchen.coffee.beacon . Followed by the protein powder shake from Health in Color and the Chocolate and Mushroom Elixir from 4 Wall Farm.

We will also be regretting not cleaning or replacing the carburetor on the snow blower.

Be well.

Snowfall Again In New York; Beacon's Internet Is Not Having It

It’s snowing again in Beacon, and the local Internet is not having it. A Little Beacon Blog didn’t even feel like opening up the screen door to get a photo. Most vendors at the Beacon Farmer’s Market called out Sunday morning as light sleet fell intermittently, not wanting to chance the return home should more precipitation have arrived. Lines at the cashier at Key Food at 10:30am were winding back into the isles; not with a panic vibe, but people were getting what people were getting.

New York’s Governor Hochul declared a State of Emergency for Dutchess and surrounding counties. Dutchess County banned all non-essential road travel beginning Sunday evening. Beacon City School’s called for a school closure for Monday, and kids began planning their sleepover nights.

The flower shop Flora’s response to the snow on Sunday.

The City Of Beacon robo-called everyone to remind the public not to park on any street when over 2” of snow falls so that plows can get through. Both Beacon’s Highway and Water Departments were out by at least 11pm plowing, and then again in the early hours, as snow continued to fall as predicted.

By sunrise, the City of Beacon robo-called again to let the public know that Dutchess County had extended the weather travel ban to 4pm Monday, that Town Hall and the Recreation Center would be closed, and there would be no bus service.

As the people of Beacon rolled out of bed, they began posting their response feelings to Instagram. The flower shop Flora had posted last evening, nearly throwing in the towel on the winter retail season.

“The Melody of Melting” poem by Katie Hellmuth.

When the first dumping of two feet of snow started melting, A Little Beacon Blog wrote a poem about what it sounded like, called “The Melody Of Melting.” It was an encouraging time. Nothing like the resulting dehydrated snow that has been slowly evaporating under gray skies in below freezing temperatures, resembling leftover Dairy Queen ice-cream cake that mysteriously does not melt.

The performers at Broadway in Beacon compiled a winter slideshow sourced from the IG account Beacon Living, showing how we all feel as we watch the snow fall again.

Snow reflections from Nickeya Smith.

Nickeya Smith opened her window in the suburbs and asked herself why. Then recommended the remake of The Burbs on Peacock.

Other house-bound people expressed it in the form of cats, and talk-show hosts canceling themselves.

Another reader posted a twinkling picture of her shed, followed by a quietly snowy poem by Mary Oliver about an owl, and then reported in that she’d measured 8” so far in her Beacon backyard.

Meanwhile, kissing videos and interviews with Wuthering Heights stars Margot Robbie and Jacob Elordi are flooding the Instagram, so we have plenty to watch.

Snowstorm Inside The Beacon Bubble: Grocery Shelves Stocked; Travel Ban; School Closed Monday; Police Say Cars Will Be Towed

Snow fell as anticipated on Sunday morning. By now, all 3 local farmers markets had been closed; Governor Hochul declared a State of Emergency with cold temperatures and 12”-18” snow predicted for the Hudson Valley; Dutchess County issued a ban on non-essential vehicular traffic from 5am January 25, to 5pm January 26, 2026; the Beacon City School District closed school for Monday due to the travel ban; and the Beacon Police insisted that people not park in the street or they will be towed.

For walking customers, Key Food Beacon was open with shelves stocked, the world-famous HÅKAN Chocolatier was open with shovel ready, Tara Fusion in the Hudson Valley Food Hall was open for people to visit if they got stir-crazy and needed lunch in between snow blowing or sidewalk shoveling.

City of Beacon Closes Beacon Farmer's Market For Predicted Snow Storm

In preparation for Sunday’s predicted snowfall, the City of Beacon closed the Beacon Farmer’s Market, located in the DMV parking lot, so that people could park their cars there overnight and into the morning while snow plows cleared the roads. Click here for ALBB’s Free Parking Lot Guide for other lots.

In an announcement to their followers, the Beacon Farmer’s Market said: “When it snows in Beacon, Main Street parking must be cleared to allow plows to pass through. During these times, public parking lots—like the DMV Lot—are needed for resident parking. With snowfall expected Saturday night into Sunday, the City of Beacon required our market space for this purpose. We’re happy to do our part to help keep Beacon accessible for residents!”

The City of Beacon issued an emergency robo-call to those signed up for the robo-service, reminding people of parking guidelines:

A Beacon highway Department truck plows around the Dummy Light on its way down East Main Street toward Mount Beacon.

“After two inches of snow, your vehicle cannot be parked on the street between the hours of 9:00 p.m. and 7:00 a.m. and must not obstruct City snowplows from clearing the streets. You’re welcome to move your vehicle into the City's public parking lots, but they must be moved 24 hours after the snow stops falling so that the parking lots can then be cleared after the streets are finished. We hope to avoid issuing any tickets for this storm.”

Mayor Lee Kyriacou also reminded residents to clear their sidewalks: "Please also remember that property owners must clear adjacent sidewalks within 24 hours of the snowfall ending. Further, it is both unsafe and a violation of City code to throw snow into the road.”

Meanwhile out on Main Street, most businesses were open. Including the landromat on East Main Street. This is also the location of three hair styling destinations: Horse & Lion, Tikos II, and Sullivan and Main.

Full Closure Snow Day Friday In Beacon - The Balance Between Snow & Remote Continues

For kids, a Snow Day is usually an undebatable Good Thing.

For parents, it is usually a disruption, with kids being home, making getting to work or medical appointments or other destinations for other kids difficult.

However, for some families, Snow Days in the time of Remote Learning during the pandemic, is a welcomed Day Off. It’s a day off from making sure kids are logging into their different classes during the day, and is possibly a day to actually get more work done. This flip was never imagined during previous years - possibly any previous year - of a parent’s Snow Day.

The Thinking Behind The Day Off Snow Day vs The Remote Snow Day

Beacon’s School DIstrict’s Superintendent Matt Landahl has been communicating his strategy behind when to go Remote during bad weather, and when to just stay home without anyone driving anywhere, and not doing any school supplied learning.

“We moved to a full closure with no remote instruction today for a couple of reasons,” he told parents via email.

“We have 6 snow days built into our calendar and we have only used 3 full closures so far this year. We can still use a couple of more Snow Days without impacting things like Spring Break. Second, for a longer-term move to Remote Learning, many of our teachers need access to their classrooms to provide remote instruction for longer periods than a day or two. I was thinking yesterday, perhaps optimistically, that the 1 Hour Delay would get us in person today and I had not thought through the Remote part of this.”

While the past two weeks have been stop and go with Remote Learning due to weather, the Snow Day Friday for this blogger was a welcome one.

Resilience On Main Street: Several Restaurants, Groceries and Shops Open During Snowstorm

Once again, several of Beacon’s restaurants and shops opened during Beacon’s first snowstorm of 2019. Business owners really want to be the answers to your dreams, and if your dreams include roasted marshmallows, regular groceries, potato skins, or hot yoga, then you’re in luck: Several Beacon businesses rose to the occasion and dug their way out of the snow to open.

Not all businesses were open, as snow days mean different things to different people: Kids are home from school, some daycare centers closed, and roads were bad. Governor Cuomo declared a State of Emergency for seven counties (Albany, Columbia, Greene, Rensselaer, Schenectady, Saratoga and Ulster counties) with imposed low speed limit rules, as first responders responded to 740 storm-related crashes today, according to HV-NY.

The domino effect is real when it comes to snow days. Safety first. However, several businesses were quick to list their openings or closures on social media (namely Instagram - that’s who we check, at least!).

If you were wanting to cook up a steak or pork chop, Barb’s Butchery was open as usual. So were Max’s On Main and Isamu (sushi) if you wanted someone to cook the food for you. Utensil usually opens during snowstorms, because you might need a pizza stone right now as there’s high demand for comfort food during snow days. Key Foods and Beacon Natural Market had salt to melt the snow, and pink salt to flavor your home-cooked food.

If your pets were stalking you for food, Beacon Barkery was open. Hudson Beach Glass was firing it up inside, so you could shop or watch them make the glass ornaments. Hudson Valley Marshmallow was firing up the blowtorch in their “mallow shack.” Pavonine Yoga was open, as were other fitness studios on Main Street (even if they had a later opening). The movie theater in town - Story Screen - was showing movies. (They also serve beer and popcorn!) The Telephone Building dug out and is always open for Beahive members and soon-to-be Tin Shingle members to come out of the house and work work work! Some might call the cozy atmosphere a #workation.

Several others were open on Main Street, so know this for future snowstorm needs: Assume nothing. Just because your car is buried in the driveway doesn’t mean everyone’s car is still buried there. If you need something, just walk to Main Street!

Main Street Beacon Is OPEN After The Snow Storm!

snow-day-shops-open-november-2018.png

Friday may be a snow day for every parent in the Beacon City School District and other private schools, but businesses are open on Main Street in Beacon. These business owners are resilient, and some were out with their shovels on Thursday night as the snow fell, pre-clearing the sidewalks for Friday morning’s forecast of rain.

Sleet did fall at 6:30 am at least, making for slippery and dangerous roadways, but come the 9 am hour, snow was falling, and by 1 pm, we are in full blue sky and sunshine.

How is the parking, you ask? Eh, skip the parking, just get your winter boots on and come on out! Let today be your day to ride the free Beacon bus up and down Main Street. Hail it from wherever, and get off whenever.

Here is a sampling of who you can go see on this snow day, and beyond into the weekend!
