A new design has been sprayed onto the left wall of the Skate Park, which so far has been used by presumably smaller kids and those who produce smaller designs and sketches. This composition is little bit pac-man, a little bit maze, a little bit domino blocks. But that’s just one interpretation.
A few friendly symbols adorn the inside, like a peace sign and a heart, maybe some polkadots, which could be in tribute to this side of the wall.
The start of a skull or X-ray is on the right side of the wall.
As with all of these graffiti arts, to be continued...

Pictured here is a forever face of Beacon, former Mayor Randy Casale, who walks every morning, and used to wake up even earlier to water those petunias hanging above your heads back when watering the petunias had to be cut from the budget.
He’s not affiliated with this year’s Spirit of Beacon Day (that ALBB knows of), but here he was last week, wearing his Spirit t-shirt.
Following up to Wednesday’s article about the tree falling on Beekman, a resident, Katherine Mahoney, wrote in to A Little Beacon Blog to say: “Get your facts right! On 7/29 a tree did not fall. A big branch fell off the tree onto Beekman. I was there😊”
Two sources had verified to ALBB that “a tree fell.” However, to get more precise information, ALBB inspected the tree close to the sidewalk, on the other side of the fence of the Hammond Plaza residential units. While there, Katherine and another person was outside inspecting the tree. ALBB approached to learn more, and asked whose property the tree was on for future tree maintenance. Neither could confirm, but Katherine said: “We are trying to get a survey.” Katherine also recalled another tree incident last year along the sidewalk.
One year ago to the day, a Tree in the same line as this year’s branch break uprooted and fell into Hammond Plaza. Photo Credit: A Reader of ALBB.
It was speculated that more than one tree was not healthy, whereby a large branch falling into the street, such as Wednesday’s incident, may happen again.
Just one year ago, an entire tree fell over at the root, as photographed on July 30, 2025. A reader of ALBB submitted this time-stamped photo of the tree that fell in the direction of Hammond Plaza last year, almost reaching the residential parking lot and a parked car. Had it fallen the other way, it would have blocked the road.
‘Twas a busy morning for the Beacon Highway Department (and possibly the Water Department if they were helping, but they’d have to chime in to confirm). After Tuesday evening’s downpour and steady lightening storm, a tree branch fell on Beekman, the road that leads down to the Beacon train station.
After a steady downpour, cracks of lightening and rolling thunder Tuesday night, the sinkhole at the top of the Beacon Train Station entrance that revealed itself on May 21, 2026 also after rainfall, and was covered in with dirt, opened again early Wednesday morning. Drivers to the train station could continue down the driveway, but were advised by MTA Police to follow the cones around the sinkhole. All photos are at the bottom of this article.
According to sources familiar with the situation, the sinkhole was covered in with dirt again, and one side was covered with a metal plate. In May, the Beacon Police inspected the hole with a flashlight, as it was open and hollow under the asphalt. In these pictures, the dirt has already been thrown in. Compared with the photos in May 2026, the sinkhole appears to be spreading. More patches of sunken asphalt are opening further down the driveway.
Can this chronic sinkhole suddenly collapse, taking the MTA Police officer guarding it and the nearby MTA Police Station with it?
“If there is not enough support for the land above the spaces,” states the U.S. Geological Survey website, “then a sudden collapse of the land surface can occur. These collapses can be small, or they can be huge and can occur where a house or road is on top.”
New townhouses are also located at that intersection.
It is not clear why the MTA has not initiated a major repair on this sinkhole that is proving chronic. Dirt turns into mud, and sinks further down. Sinkholes can be caused by leaking pipes underneath the ground. ALBB has not confirmed where the storm-water line is down there on Railway Drive, right off Beekman Street, and who is responsible for repairing it: the MTA or the City of Beacon.
The next block party cookout at South Avenue Park above Loopers Plaza will be the annual Back 2 School Block Party on Saturday, August 22, 2026. This highly anticipated event usually coincides with a final basketball game of Beacon Hoops down at Loopers Plaza court, followed by hamburger’s and hotdogs at in the meadow of South Avenue Park, below the City of Beacon Parks and Recreation Center.
The theme is to “Stuff the Bus” with school supplies. Kids who attend come away with a free bag of school supplies while supplies last. In order to get a bag, kids must go around to the businesses and organizations who have registered for the event.
A Little Beacon Blog will be there offering free face painting at our table. Come say hi!
Beacon’s Cookout this year was complimented this year by a round of Beacon Hoops games that had been rescheduled due to rainfall earlier in the week. As the final teams let out at 1pm, the cheeseburgers and hotdogs were announced to be ready at the DJ booth, followed by an official welcome and call for Beacon’s Black voices to come forward to share their experiences living in Beacon, and their Black histories in Beacon.

It’s been a minute and there is so much Beacon News to share with you. But a few client projects greenlit all at once, so ALBB has been submerged in setting them up and managing them to spin freely and prosperously while we get back to reporting. A few new followers/readers have come on board, so we wanted to kickstart this re-entry back into the timeline with a couple slides from @sarahofmagdalene, with the first one highlighting what @prettyonfridays said in response to the desire to fighting everyone and napping at the same time.
SarahofMagdaline has been cooking up there in Maine, brewing up matriarchy and her collections of thoughts in her IG. She’s got a new program going on for it, so visit her and buy her a pretend cup of coffee with your dollars or join her program.
Meanwhile, ALBB is finally settling into the weekend edition of the Things To Do In Beacon Guides, which means we get to circulate in Retail Therapy of all of our Business Blog Squad members to see what they are up to and what they are selling.
At this moment, the dimming of the day is setting in, which means that the intense last rays of sun is smothering us while lighting the shadows inside the home. The dimming of the day can be an emotionally triggering time, so it’s always best to take care during this hour if it affects you.
The 5’oclock sun can light up corners you hadn’t seen in some time, illuminating dust bunnies and cat hair that you didn’t realize were there. Maybe even kitchen grease glopping down the wall in a now solid stream.
Rather than devote time to wipe it all away, as satisfying as that may be, you might choose to take a nap. If you can afford it, maybe once a month or once a year, let someone else clean it for you, which could be @uac_hv, a professional cleaning service here in Beacon who would be happy to let you rest. Your choice if you want organic products, or if you crave the harsh aroma of bleach, Fantastic and ALBB’s favorite, Murphy’s Oil Soap. Just let UAC know which products you want them to use. Treat yourself if you’re able. Or treat someone else!
Speaking of houses, Maneri Roofing yard signs have been popping up throughout Beacon with new roof projects. Call them for yours. Owner Frank doesn’t have an Instagram, so let him know you saw it on ALBB.

The “poop parasite” memes and funny tweets are all over the Internet for the Cyclosporiasis parasite that may come from produce and bagged salads and raw berries. But Beacon-based Fareground, the food justice organization who distributes fresh produce to many individuals in need, and is connected to farms and other sources of produce, posted a helpful prevention flyer that was quite pretty.
A Little Beacon Blog reached out to Fareground to ask if it was an original design for Fareground, or if they got it from a government website. The designer, Yin Mei, who speaking for Fareground’s Instagram for that moment, answered back: “Yessss! I did design it - it’s public - welcome to share it!!”
Yin elaborated further: “It was Jamie’s idea!” Jamie Levato is the executive director of Fareground. “Jamie had the intuition that if we are handing out produce, that it would be a great idea to hand out some public health info about the foodborne parasite. So many versions on the Internet felt too dramatic - so we designed and built a calmer, higher-agency version that we felt appropriate.”
Yin continued: “We want people not to panic, and still enjoy the benefits of healthy eating. I ate grapes yesterday, but I peeled them like I used to do in the old days. It slowed me down a little, but that’s important in life I think :). Maybe that’s the lesson.”
FareGround’s Guidance To Handling And Eating Food During The Cyclosporiasis Parasite Outbreak
Fareground shared this message with their Instagram followers:
Please pay extra attention to food handling.
🧼Wash hands and surfaces thoroughly before handling food.
🚿Wash all produce thoroughly under running water.
🍌Peel all produce that you are not going to cook.
🥘Cook all produce that you cannot peel or wash thoroughly (berries, cut greens, vegetable platters).
🫶 Avoid directly eating the pre-washed bagged veggies if possible. Berries may be hard to wash, so please exert caution.
Here at Fareground, distributing fresh farm produce to our local food system is our act of care. To support our community health, we want to offer these simple instructions to help prevent the food-borne parasite from affecting our delicious healthy meals.
Feel free to share this flyer for anyone wondering what to do about the food-borne parasite called Cyclosporiasis.
If you have good recipe ideas for our cooked-food moment, comment below.
Clean and cook your produce!
Feel free to use Fareground’s flyer for your audiences.
Little known fact: Shelter Air’s founder, Kimberly Sevilla, is also a volunteer fire fighter and a sailor on the Hudson River. That’s why when she speaks fire and air quality, we listen.
“These wildfires are no joke,” Kimberly told her audience at Shelter Air’s Instagram. “Today’s air quality is a reminder that what happens outside doesn’t always stay outside. Fine smoke particles can make their way into your home, affecting the air you and your family breathe.”
Wanting to know how to protect the air inside residential and commercial areas, A Little Beacon Blog reached out to Shelter Air for their recommendation. “Shelter Air has been installing MERV 13 media filters to help capture a high percentage of smoke, dust, pollen, and other fine airborne particles that standard 1” filters often miss,” they told us.
“If your HVAC system can accommodate a media filter, it’s one of the best upgrades you can make for your home’s indoor air quality.”
All levels of leadership are recommending to stay indoors. But that is hard during this beautiful summer. Many recreational activities have been canceled or moved. Games for Beacon Hoops were canceled on Wednesday for the younger league, and then moved inside to Rombout Middle School for the high school league. The Riverpool at Beacon had to close 2 days this week due to the poor air quality, after coming up for air when the water quality improved after the sewage leak in Yonkers around July 4th when the Sloop Clearwater was banned from the Sail4th 250 tall ship 4th of July maritime parade for flying a banner that said “Save The Clean Water Act.”
Shelter Air’s final words: “Stay indoors when the Air Quality Index is high, keep your windows closed, and let your HVAC system do its job. Clean air matters—especially on days like today.”
This content is a re-post from the multi-advocate @JennaLynnKing, who collected and posted on her Instagram. The video she posted of the smoke bellowing from where the ocean meets the land is from @lyndo.tyler on July 14th or 15th, who is a photographer, who said in his caption of the video: "Can't believe this happened. I watched my home burn...Although happy we got everyone out at the last minute...Haven't slept yet."
“As of July 15, 2026, there are over 100 active wildfires burning across northwestern Ontario, with 148 active wildland fires in the province’s northwest alone — 69 of them not under control.
“Entire communities have been forced to flee. The sky over Toronto has turned orange. And the smoke is now drifting into the United States.”
The City of Beacon entered into a contract with Legal Services of the Hudson Valley to provide increased access to Beacon tenants facing eviction. They may also be able to help with sources of rent arrears assistance. Call the paralegal, Steven Mihalik at 845-253-6953 to inquire.
