Two Iconic Trees Removed By Arborists From Beacon's High School Track

On August 6th, 2026, while the Beacon City School District was undergoing final phases of major updates and improvements scheduled in its Capital Plan on all school campuses, two iconic trees in the high school track along Matteawan and Verplanck were taken down by arborists.

A Little Beacon Blog has reached out to the district for confirmation on the source and reason for their removal, but has not received a response yet.

Meanwhile, the jagged, tall tree stump of which the tree broke last March next to the bleachers on the walking path by the track remains up. Several other trees along that path also have bare, dead branches in the canopies. The BCSD has not yet confirmed to ALBB as to whose trees those are - the City's or the District's.
