Fishkill Rocked By HV Local, Daniel Mandia, Throwing Nazi Salute In Teenager Tik Tok He Video Bombed; Law Enforcement Reviewing

UPDATE 6/5/2026: Police Department Of The Village of Fishkill Concludes Review Of Nazi Salute Made By Daniel Mandia”

The Village of Fishkill Block Party was Saturday, May 30th 2026. It is an event that many locals in the Hudson Valley including Beacon look forward to experiencing. The exposure is good for businesses - both retail and restaurants - and the block party nature is good for the community to keep people together.

At the bouncy houses this year, two female teenagers of color (one African American and one Asian) were filming a Tik Tok dance video. They had their dance moves choreographed, and looked cheerful. As they danced, a taller white man in a white shirt and black sunglasses walked into the frame and gave a solid, strong, pointed Nazi salute, and exited the frame. The girls did not skip a beat. They finished their choreography.

According to a person familiar with the situation at the bouncy house, the man approached the girls after he gave the Nazi salute, and asked them if they knew what it meant. He then encouraged them to post the video he bombed to Tik Tok. The girls then moved from that section of the party, and inquired later what the salute meant.

The Internet was quick to identify the man as Daniel Mandia, who owns Mandia & Sons Construction, though acquaintances say he has no sons of his own, and does not work with his father. It is unknown at this time who the “Sons” refers to. Acquaintances say he goes by Danny. Multiple acquaintances say that his family does not condone his behavior. A Little Beacon Blog emailed and called the construction company for explanation of the salute, but no one has responded.

ALBB has received multiple confirmations from people both intimately and professionally familiar with Daniel that he is the man in the video making the Nazi salute. People have also forwarded a Twitter account “Captain Tyin’ Knots” @1_1savedbygrace which multiple people say is his.

The profile of this Twitter account reads: “AMERICA ONLY/Child of God/Husband/Father/Entrepreneur/GC/ 🇺🇸 ONLY /NY’r/ owner of Construction LLC ✊🏼 🇺🇸 🙏🏻 🛠️ 🧰 ⚒️”

People familiar with this account also screenshot a message that they viewed as an admission to throwing the Nazi salute at the Fishkill Block Party. In this message, the account asked: “If you throw up a Roman Salute does it automatically mean you hate all blacks, all browns and all Jews?”

This Tweet and other Tweets made this year may have since been deleted. But screenshots of them were saved by community members and are circulating on the Internet.

In past tweets, the Twitter account makes anti-Jewish remarks, including a remark about the the recent announcement that the United States Military is merging with the Israeli Army. In response to a Tweet by The General that says: “BREAKING: Congress is attempting to fuse the U.S. military with Israel’s as Section 224 of the 2027 National Defense Authorization Act ‘would all but fuse American and Israeli armed forces together.” Captain Tyin’ Knots responded: “J’s helping J’s as the Goy scrape by.”

While humanitarians supporting a free world from Zionists agree that this military merging is a bad idea, one would point out that it is Zionists, not Jews, that are making this public merger come true. Zionism is harmful and itself is antisemetic to Judaism.

One of his most telling alleged Tweets was one that set the stage for the setup of the kids he video-bombed. The Tweet may have since been deleted, but screenshots remain. It read: “Teenagers of today are so stupid, they think that it’s illegal to throw up a Roman in America.”

What Is A “Roman Salute”?

In today’s era, “A Roman” is a white supremacist reference to the Nazi salute. It is interpreted to be racist to Black and Brown communities, the Jewish community, the LGBTQ community, and others.

However, white supremacists veil it by labeling it “a Roman.” The historian of Roman history, Dr Samuel Agbamu, Lecturer in Classics, took a moment to study the difference between a Roman and fascist salute and found that there is no evidence from Rome that there even is a Roman salute. “Those of us who research and teach Roman antiquity, as I do,” he said, “will tell you there is no evidence that there was ever such a thing as a ‘Roman salute’ in antiquity.”

Where Is The Video To Watch?

The video has been republished here in this article. Scroll down where you will see a video that contains both Mayor Kathy Martin’s remarks during a meeting, followed by the incident.

Community Groups at Facebook’s Response To The Nazi Salute

Many people in the community were quick to publicly identify Daniel and his business in comment threads on various posts. The video was first posted on Inside Scoop Fishkill, a group on Facebook moderated by James Kearney, but then it was deleted. Another Fishkill group, Keep Fishkill Beautiful moderated by Karen Finnegan, then published an edited version, where the teens were blurred out.

Karen told ALBB: “Inside Scoop Fishkill, with over 10k members, ended up pulling the video and issued this statement. Keep Fishkill Beautiful has no problem at all publishing the video. There are ways to control discussions on groups like this while also standing on the right side of history. Our group with just 3k followers put it up - safely, monitoring comments, and not only that - brought it to the attention of both the Town and the Board, which is why Mayor Martin made her statement. Regular people need to be doing this daily. Keep Fishkill Beautiful is trying to be seen as a nonpartisan group that also isn’t OK with literal Nazis here.”

ALBB reached out to Inside Scoop Fishkill for comment, and received this statement from James: “The decision to remove the post was not made to protect or excuse his actions. We do not condone what happened in the video whatsoever.

“The post was removed because the comments escalated into people sharing personal information, including addresses, threats toward immediate family members, and photos of children. Once it became a safety concern involving a child and people not directly involved, we had a responsibility to remove it.

“There is a difference between holding someone accountable and putting uninvolved family members, children, or private individuals at risk. We do not own or defend his actions, but we are responsible for keeping this page from becoming a place where personal information, threats, or photos of children are shared.

“We appreciate your understanding as we try to balance open discussion, accountability, privacy, and safety for the entire community.”

Keep Fishkill Beautiful is continuing its advocacy at the Town Meeting, and provided this statement to ALBB: “The normalization of expressions of hate and oppression has increased exponentially in our country.

“What would have been unheard of ten years ago has become a regular occurrence. The only thing that we as regular citizens can do - is to pressure our elected officials to take these heinous acts seriously and govern FOR THE PEOPLE.

“I’ve asked the Town of Fishkill to do something beyond issuing a statement. Form a committee, issue a proclamation, revoke his business license…anything to let everyone in the community know that there is no place for hate in our community.”

Village of Fishkill Police Commissioner Glenn R. Scofield Jr. has not yet released if any enforcement will be taken, such as harassment of teens.

Friends Responses To The Nazi Salute

“The Fishkill Nazi is 100% without a doubt Daniel Mandia,” one person told ALBB. “I have known him for over 40 years. He grew up in Beacon. He is the oldest of 11 siblings, all of which are decent people along with his parents who are good people.”

One acquaintance confirmed that Daniel enjoyed being a rapper under the pseudonym "D-tox." “But when that didn't work out, he chose white supremacy,” the friend concluded.

An acquaintance also confirmed that Daniel is the same Daniel who caused the death of a motorcyclist, Nicole Pepe, age 26, in 2014, as reported in the Poughkeepsie Journal. From the article: “Police reported the crash occurred about 11:18 p.m. Aug. 16. Pepe was a passenger on a Harley Davidson Motorcycle that collided with a car near the intersection of Baxtertown Road and Jackson Street.”

The acquaintance continued to ALBB: “That incident happened at the Fishkill Block Party 2014. I have personal knowledge that he was drinking all night before the accident.” It is unknown at this time if the investigation into the car crashing into the motorcycle involved a breathalyzer test.

Law Enforcement’s Response To The Nazi Salute

ALBB reached out to Village of Fishkill Police Commissioner Glenn R. Scofield Jr. to confirm a police report made about the incident and inquire as to what action was being taken by law enforcement. Commissioner Glenn R. Scofield Jr. responded: “The department is actively following up on this matter. However, we do not comment on open or pending investigations. Consequently, we cannot provide statement or confirmation regarding the incident details or the social media account mentioned at this time. As far as the position of the Village of Fishkill Police Department, I refer you to the statement provided by Mayor Martin at the June 1, 2026, meeting of the Village Board of Trustees.”

Mayor Kathy Martin’s Response To The Nazi Salute

Mayor Kathy Martin is the Mayor of the Village of Fishkill. But she is also the tax assessor for the City of Beacon (see previous coverage of assessment review board here). And had been a board member of the Board of Ethics Board of Dutchess County, but does not appear to be on that board anymore (ALBB highlighted her board position an article when Beacon City Council questioned Mayor Kyriacou about how to submit ethics complaints about Beacon board members). Many roads had lead to Kathy Martin.

Mayor Martin’s statement was strong and swift. Beacon usually sees her in a service capacity, explaining how tax assessments work every year, encouraging people to come to her if they have any questions. But in her role as Mayor of East Fishkill, she took a much different tone in condemning the action. Her quote in full is below, and the video of the incident and her statement is below:

“We had our Block Party this past weekend and it was a really, really great night. However, it's been brought to my attention that there was a posting on social media that was completely unacceptable. I want to state very clearly that the Village of Fishkill, and I as Mayor, do not condone acts of hate, prejudice, antisemitism, or racism. I apologize to all of the people who are upset by this, but please know that we are upset as well. There is no place for hate here in the Village of Fishkill.

"I also wanted to read a full statement of this: The village of Fishkill stands firmly against antisemitism, bigotry, hatred and discrimination in all of their forms. Acts of prejudice and intolerance have no place in our community. Our strength comes from the diversity of our residents, and from the shared values of respect, dignity and inclusion that unite us.

"We condemn any acts or actions or rhetoric that targets individuals because of their faith, ethnicity, race, national origin, or background. Antisemitismm, like all forms of hate, undermines the very principles of community and democracy that we hold dear.

"As Mayor, I remain committed to fostering a Village where every person feels safe, valued and welcomed. We must continue to stand together and speak out against hatred and support one another in building a community rooted in understanding, compassion and mutual respect. The Village of Fishkill is strongest when we stand united.

"We had so many compliments and good feelings at this event, that I really am saddened that this person took it upon themselves to blemish the event. We won't accept that kind of hatred here in the Village of Fishkill."

ALBB reached out to the Town Supervisor of East Fishkill, Nick D’Alessandro, for comment, who responded: "There is zero tolerance for hate of any kind, period."

The Town of Fishkill published this statement on their Facebook.

Dutchess County Executive Sue Serino said, as reported by Hudson Valley Post: “I roundly condemn this conduct and it has no place in Dutchess County. I am proud to see so many members of our community speaking out against this hateful act.”

Legislator Yvette Valdes Smith has made a statement: “Family, unity, and respect. These are Fishkill values, and why I love our community so much. I’m horrified by the hateful, anti-Semitic action of one individual at the Fishkill Block Party. I condemn this person’s behavior in the strongest way and applaud everyone who has spoken out against it. I am proud to stand with my Fishkill neighbors in unity against hate. As Americans, it is our privilege and our responsibility to call out hate and injustice. I am proud to represent our diverse, welcoming, and inclusive community.”

Mike Schade for Dutchess County Legislature tweeted: "Hate and antisemitism have no place in our community. This man's action is despicable."

A reader of the Hudson Valley Post article, Steve Greenfield, commented: “He didn't do it randomly, or even at a group of Jews, or a synagogue, making it stupid, and hateful, but not illegal.

“The situation was two adolescent girls were filming themselves doing some TikTok dance thing, and a middle aged man sneaked up behind them to do that. If I were the father of either of them, that guy, who is easily identifiable, would have had a visit he'd remember for the rest of his life.

“He should be arrested for harassment of children as a warning. He did not do it to offend Jews. He did it to mess with children, children who most likely are not Jewish, albeit what's visible is not absolute evidence of that. Just most likely. That's the issue.”

The Roaming Turkey In Fishkill Is Fine, According To The Internet. Enjoys People Watching.

The roaming turkey that keeps being spotted in Fishkill is fine, according to many locals in the Inside Scoop Fishkill, NY Facebook Group. General consensus is that the turkey is female, is named Tammy, and while some are concerned for her that she may be frightened, she seems to be just very comfortable in Fishkill watching the comings and goings of traffic. There is bird-watching for humans, and there seems to be human-watching for turkeys.

Maria Lammens made a Facebook post for the turkey, starting off with: “Poor thing…wish I could relocate it to the land by my home where the wild turkeys roam. Fishkill Turkey still hanging out on Rt 9 and Rapalje by Burger King.”

After receiving feedback, Maria expanded: “I have worked with wildlife rehabilitation over the years and understand the complex issues with capturing and relocating a wild animals. I have no intention to attempt a capture and release of this bird. My post was meant to indicate a level of sympathy for the bird that is living his life in an unnatural habitat.”

Most have cautioned not to try to trap it or disturb it. Some have suggested that Tammy is a traffic concern.

However, the behavior of the people hoking at Tammy or stopping and staring may be what is herding Tammy into unsafe directions. Brian Voght observed: “It’s not stuck. It can fly if it wants to. It keeps coming back. Been around fishkill for months; just comfortable there. But I agree, it’ll get hit eventually.”

Residents have apparently tried to universally organize for the turkey. Diane Burkart said: “They won’t do anything about her unless she is injured. The people who live in the Roundhill development where she came from looked into it. We have called wildlife people and they won’t help.”

Nicole Altuchoff, a vet tech, instructed: “Please leave Tammy alone. She flies and is very smart. She does not need saving or capture. Capturing a turkey incorrectly can cause them to die and go into shock. She is fed and healthy. There are flocks all over Dutchess County and in the area she will find her way. She is checked on daily. I am a vet tech and have been in contact with many rescues and wild life rehabilitation places that work with injured turkeys specifically. It is more dangerous to try and trap her/relocate her. Many things can go wrong.

Said: Maryann Tamilio-Coviello “He’s famous - walking the streets for days. K104 was just talking about his adventures.”

Melissa Baumann insisted: “I’m going to say it again. There is nothing wrong with this turkey. They walk, they fly, they move around a lot. It is just about mating season for turkeys. They are more active. He is not lonely, lost, or scared. He is hanging around hens and getting food. Just happens to be by a busy street. It doesn't need rescue, there is absolutely nothing wrong. It is doing what turkeys do. Leave it alone and do some research on animals. They best thing you can do for wild animals is leave them alone.”

Mike Mazzuca contributed with his thoughts on the turkey’s gender: “This is a Tammy not a Tommy. 5% to 10% of the females have beards, its a rarity. The give away that she is a female is the feathers on her head. Males don’t have them. It wasn't easy at first, until I used my professional camera to get up close and detailed shots. You can check out the post I did that shows her head. As for not trapping her. Even though I personally rather see her in a more ideal environment for her, wildlife and humans are mixing more and more due to expansion and the lessening of wildlife habitat. Plus it is safer for her concerning predators. She can fly like all turkeys, and if needed, be will roost in a tree at night. So lets all slowdown when we see her. Maybe some "Turkey at Play"signs around Fishkill. Lol.”

Patricia Marmo whispered: “Be patient.”

Wait...What Happened To Famous Footwear And Regal Movie Theater?

Upon arriving to the Fishkill Town Center to shop for new and affordable kids shoes at Famous Footwear, the store was gone. And so was the Regal Movie Theater. The Bass shoe-store had left long ago. The Read Scout Reservation Shop is there, as is Dogtopia with all of their dogs, but Olivia’s Barber & Unisex Salon was gone as well.

Photo Credit: Screenshot of photo from WPDH.

Inside the former movie theater, the floor had been ripped up, and renovation work of some kind looked active. WPDH reported on October 4, 2024 that Facebook users of the East Fishkill Community Forum reported that the theater had closed. According to the radio station: “The person that posted the news of the closing, Heather L. Dini, also said that the workers had just found out the week prior. No other information on the closing of the theater was available at the time of this writing.”

On October 3rd, a photo of a man in a truck working on the forever-faded Regal Cinemas sign was taken and published to WPDH, a day before they published their news article about the closure.

ALBB has not verified with Regal Entertainment Group as to when they notified employees of the closure. The media outlet also reported that the movie theater group had announced dozens of closings: “Back in January 2023, Regal Cinemas announced that they would be closing 39 theaters across the U.S. and unfortunately that included a one Hudson Valley theater, the Cortlandt Town Center Regal 'United Artist Theaters' in Mohegan Lake.”

Upon the news of this suddenly almost vacant building, readers of ALBB chimed in with different reactions. Bespoke suit tailor David Reese said: “I remember a time of chaos... ruined dreams... this wasted land. But most of all, I remember The Road Warrior.”

Wearable art designer Selma Karaca said: “We are bankrupt but we have $ to supply all the wars in the other side of the world.”

Jillian Rotsky aka @therealpurpletutu said: “It's pretty dead. But there is an excellent wine store, Boutique Wines Spirits and Cider, and a great Indian restaurant!” OliveGaza and others agreed: “Gymkhana the Indian restaurant is 🔥 (esp the lunch buffet!)”

Now residents must drive further up to the Poughkeepsie Mall to find Famous Footwear and DSW for a wider variety of lower priced kids shoes. Plato’s Closet is coming to Poughkeepsie, and there are other consignment shops in the area to help with this.

ALBB readers also chimed in to say that Planet Fitness is moving in to the movie theater spot, which has been confirmed.

Remembering That Time The Old Dutchess Mall Was Marked "Free Palestine"

On December 17, 2023, just 3 months into the genocide carried out by Israel on Palestine which is financially and legislatively supported by the United States, but not condemned by most local politicians who watch the tax dollars get spent on mass murder for maintaining imperialism, under the guise of “safety” and a “war on terror,” the Old Dutchess Mall was tagged with the message “Free Palestine” almost a year ago.

The Old Dutchess Mall is next to Home Depot in Fishkill on US-9. Once a retail destination, is remains a dilapidated, neglected building surrounded by trash and flooding from its parking lot. However, the “Free Palestine” message was cleaned within days of its marking. It is a wonder why the property owners are allowed to keep it in this unmaintained condition.

In terms of development, The Old Dutchess Mall has a long history of “almosts,” which you can read about here. Among other things, it almost became a women’s prison as part of a “Dead Malls” competition, according to Wikipedia. While it is deserted, someone or someones appeared quickly to make the “Free Palestine” disappear.

City of Beacon Urges Reconsideration of Partial Matteawan Road Closure By Fishkill Correctional Facility

The week that the Beacon City School District announced to families that the part of Matteawan Road that passes through the Fishkill Correctional Facility after the Beacon High School, and intersects with Business Route 52 (at which point, it is called Prospect Street), would be closed to the public on November 1, 2021, the The City of Beacon’s Administrator Chris White announced at a public City Council Workshop Meeting (at 1:19:00) that the City strongly urged the Fishkill Correctional Facility to reconsider the partial road closure, to start a dialogue to form a better plan, and to support Assemblyman Jacobson’s efforts to allow school bus routes at the very least until solutions could be found.

According to Administrator Chris, the City of Beacon was first informed on October 18, 2021 by the Superintendent of the Fishkill Correctional Facility that the part of Matteawan Road passing the facility would be closed to the public on November 1, 2021. In response, Administrator Chris prepared a resolution of the City’s urging of a reconsideration.

The proposed resolution to be signed during tonight’s public City Council Meeting can be found here. Today, November 1, 2021, which is the start of the partial road closure to the public, Beacon City School’s Superintendent Landahl sent a notice to district families that buses will continue running through Mattweawan Road near the Fishkill Correctional Facility, but reminded families that that part of the road is closed to the public. There has been no announcement to Beacon residents of the road block via robo-call, text, or website posting, other than the mention of it during last week’s City Council Meeting.

In providing context for Beacon’s position on the closure, Administrator Chris stated:

“Mattawean Road runs through the City of Beacon and the Town of Fishkill. It goes past the Fishkill Correctional Facility. The Town owns a piece of the road near Prospect Street that feeds in. Then the prison owns a large part of it, and then the City owns the rest of it.

“We had heard rumors from the School District that the Fishkill Correctional Facility was going to close that road as of November 1st. We only received a call on October 18th, which was the first official notification that the City was given, that the road was going to be closed permanently in less than 2 weeks.

“We have been in touch with Superintendent and our state representatives. I know that Assemblyman Jacobson's office is working diligently to try to exempt buses which would be severely disrupted if that closed. We thought we would support - I put this together because I thought it important to support our state delegation's effort to delay the implementation of this so we can do some planning, to exempt buses at the very least, and to begin a real dialogue between the Town of Fishkill, Beacon City School District, and the City of Beacon.

“There has been no planning or traffic modeling to look at what the impacts were. I would say this strongly recognizes their right and their necessity to secure their facility. Nobody is questing that. The way that we do it, though, is important. We think we can thread that needle so that it's not as disruptive to the traffic going into Rombout and the High School.”

Covered In The Proposed Resolution

Included in the City of Beacon’s Resolution, spearheaded by Administrator Chris, is the point that, for years, “Matteawan Road serves as a connection between the Town of Fishkill and the City of Beacon and is an important street access from Fishkill Avenue to the Beacon High School and Rombout Middle School.” In response ALBB’s article announcing this partial road closure last week, former City Councilperson Ali T. Muhammad, who grew up walking to Beacon school in that area, recalled when that part of the road was temporarily closed: “Grew up there, sounds awful. Last time it was shut down was due to 9/11. Good luck.”

The resolution points out that the closure to the public is “during the daytime.” The resolution makes sure to state the City of Beacon’s dissatisfaction with not being consulted by the Fishkill Correctional Facility prior to their decision: “City of Beacon recognizes the necessity and right of DOCCS and the Fishkill Correctional Facility to secure their grounds, including this section of road, the City is concerned that it and other major stakeholders, including the Beacon City School District, were not consulted on the closure and received insufficient notice to allow for traffic safety modifications and adjustment that might need to be implemented as a result of the change to traffic patterns in and around Matteawan Road.”

The City of Beacon cited concern for where traffic would increase due to the partial closure of Mattawean Road, stating that it “would create traffic and pedestrian safety issues at key intersections in the City of Beacon, including Verplanck Avenue and Matteawan Road, Wilkes Street and Matteawan Road, and at access roads through Memorial Park, which now may be used as a cut-through for motorists.”

The resolution pointed out the effort required to properly answer the partial road closure: “Any adjustments to the traffic control signage in the area will take the City a period of at least several months to assess needed modification and adopt revisions to the City Code for such modifications, which require a public hearing and adoption of a local law amending the City Code, and the City received less than two weeks’ notice of the impending partial road closure without any prior traffic safety planning by the Facility or coordination with the City.”

The City of Beacon is asking for a pausing of the partial road closure, and a commitment to work together on solutions moving forward “with a immediate establishment of a working committee to coordinate with Fishkill Correctional Facility on this matter, including the following key stakeholders: the City of Beacon, Town Town of Fishkill, and Beacon City School District in order to consider potential alternatives, and if necessary, properly plan for the impact that a partial closure of Matteawan Road would create.

Beacon’s resolution would then be sent to Governor Kathy Hochul, State Senator Sue Serino, Assemblymember Jonathan Jacobson, DOCCS Acting Commissioner Anthony Annucci, and Fishkill Correctional Facility Superintendent Edward Burnett.

5/10/2020 Numbers: Beacon On This Day; Dutchess County Changes Reporting Data For Death Counts, Resulting In Increase

On May 7, 2020, Dutchess County announced that they are changing the way they report data for those who have died from COVID-19, as well as several other key data points that include total number of confirmed cases, and total number of tests completed, to be effective on May 8, 2020. They will be using New York State’s numbers. Results via Google’s search results consistently gave a higher count for Dutchess County.

Of the counties that A Little Beacon Blog tracks for these reports - Orange and Putnam - both matched Google results with the number of deceased. Dutchess County’s was always lower: say 36 in Dutchess County’s Tracker vs 70 in Google’s Tracker.

As explained by Dutchess County in their 5/7/2020 announcement of the change:

The New York State Department of Health has authority and oversight over many of the facilities reporting case data, including hospitals and nursing homes. These facilities are not required to report to local health departments, including the Dutchess County Department of Behavioral & Community Health (DBCH). While DBCH does communicate regularly with each of the individual facilities and has been getting some of the data from them, it is difficult to reconcile on a daily basis with the state data and creates confusion for the public. Additionally, State data can include presumed positive cases in fatality numbers, unlike the data reported by local health departments.

DBCH was recently provided access to the New York State Health Emergency Reporting Data System (HERDS), however, the data is reported in the aggregate and does not provide the necessary specificity for county reporting.

Active case data, which are the cases that DBCH are currently monitoring, will continue to be reported by DBCH as well as the breakdown by municipality and number of recoveries...Dutchess County’s COVID-19 Community Impact Data Dashboard will continue to be updated daily, following NYSDOH data updates.

Beacon’s number of Active COVID-19 cases was rising as of 5/10/2020. This last report on 5/10/2020 was at 146. The last time we recorded it in our spreadsheet was 5/4/2020 and the number of active cases was 137. Not a huge difference, but a consistent increase nonetheless.

One might argue: “Well, the number of people tested is going up, so that must be the reason.” And that may be. However, the daily percentage of those who test positive for COVID-19 for the day - of those tested - has remained consistent. We track that number also. The percentage of people who test positive from those tested per day has been at 8%-9% in the last few days. Additionally, the number of tests issued in Dutchess County, according to the tracker, has remained consistent, averaging in the 400s tests given per day.

While some “low-risk” business types can open state-wide in New York on Friday (drive-in movie theaters, landscaping/gardening, tennis) Dutchess County has 3 more criteria to hit before meeting the 7 state requirements to begin reopening, which are:

  • 14-Day Decline in Hospital Deaths OR fewer than 5 deaths (3-day average).

  • New Hospitalizations (under 2 per 100k residents - 3 day rolling average.

  • At least 30 contact tracers per 100k residents.

County Executive Marcus Molinaro has announced, during his 5/11/2020 restarting video, that he will deliver live updates about the data in Dutchess County on Wednesdays and Fridays. This Wednesday, he will host a Town Hall at 5:30pm. Videos are at Facebook, or at at the Dutchess County channel at YouTube.

The last time we published reporting on these numbers was 5/1/2020. This gap of 11 days is for no other reason that Distance Learning started in our home, and while we get into that rhythm of that schooling, finishing articles got a little tricky. We have several unpublished drafts, though!

However, in that time, Dutchess County changed how they are reporting, and New York launched a new regional tracker for the re-opening. So, one must not delay!

(4/26/2019) COVID-19 Numbers For Dutchess County (64 new positives today), Beacon (117 infected right now), Fishkill, Newburgh, Wappingers Falls

As Governor Cuomo talks about a gradual reopening of New York, he imagines a regional approach between counties in New York State, as well as with other states neighboring New York, including New Jersey, Connecticut, Massachusetts, and Pennsylvania, since many people commute from state to state, and county to county to work and live. During several briefings, and succinctly by tweet, the governor has stated: “We are taking a regional approach to safely reopening NYS. Each region is facing its own set of facts. Protecting public health comes first and all decisions will be data-driven.”

New York State has its COVID-19 tracker that includes county data. Several counties have made their own daily trackers public, including Dutchess and Orange Counties, that do show some statistics for communities within the counties.

As the CDC’s guidelines have recommended a 14-day decline, with the White House’s recommendation here, realizing the numbers in this region is relevant. A Little Beacon Blog will present select numbers from the state and county trackers as a way to help you have a snapshot view of what is happening, and what happened yesterday and last week. Having context to these numbers going up and down is important.

Keep in mind, testing is limited. There is the base number of how many people are tested, but there is a limited number of tests, which limits the types of people who can get tested. Almost daily, the public and health officials are learning about the coronavirus that may impact how data is collected. Decisions won’t be based on simple numbers either. Communities will be aware of what is happening within their borders.

All numbers have been taken from the Dutchess County Tracker, and the New York State Tracker. Each have their own stipulations as to how they collect data. As of now, the number of deaths per municipality (i.e.town/city/village) is not included in Dutchess nor Orange County trackers. A Little Beacon Blog has confirmed on 4/27/2020 with Dutchess County by way of Colleen T. Pillus, the Communication Director for Dutchess County, that they do have the number of deceased for each municipality, but will not be releasing it at this time.
