The Beacon Sloop Club’s Annual Pumpkin Festival is this Sunday, October 18th from 12-5pm. Debuting will be the sloop Woody Guthrie, which is making its first public appearance since it was refurbished, the Beacon Sloop Club’s President Robert May told the Beacon Free Press. This will be in addition to the main attraction: the pumpkin pie, sliced by volunteers, as well as pumpkins for sale.

“Our Woody looks beautiful! It’s been freshly repainted and the interior partially rebuilt and newly varnished.” Attendees of the Pumpkin Festival are able to sign up for a free sale during the festival.

People can also expect new vendors, old vendor favorites, and once regular musicians returning to play on solar-powered stages, with one stage dedicated to children’s entertainment. Joyce Henson, member of the Beacon Sloop Club, told the paper: “We strive to provide attendees with a choice of free crafts, feature quality vendors, and promote environmental awareness.”

The all-volunteer group is dedicated to its strong environmental message. “We are dedicated to keeping as much single-use plastic out of our festival as possible,” Joyce told the paper. “To support this effort, we require all vendors to use compostable products.”

Free water will be available for refillable water bottles. The sale of beverages can only be made in compostable cups, glass bottles or cans.

A Little Beacon Blog will be one of several vendors participating to offer face painting experience.
