MTA Reduces To Weekend Schedule Preparing For Storm - Advises All To Finish Commute By 3pm

The MTA issued a press release on Monday, August 3rd, 2020 advising riders that service would be reduced to the weekend schedule in preparation for Hurricane Isaias. Empty tractor-trailers and tandem trucks on MTA bridges are banned on Tuesday, in anticipation of tropical storm force winds expected to arrive on Tuesday. Mayor Kyriacou translated the message during Monday evening’s City Council Meeting, and encouraged commuters to complete travel by 3pm to avoid delays caused by the storm.

“High winds pose a particularly serious concern on bridges, which is why we’re instituting a ban on tandem trailers and empty tractor trailers on our bridges from noon to midnight on Tuesday,” said MTA Bridges and Tunnels President Daniel DeCrescenzo. “Additional restrictions may put into place if conditions warrant so we are advising all motorists to look out for announcements as the storm passes through.”

More caution was given in the press release: "Customers should take precautions to travel safely and should defer non-essential travel, if possible, during and after heavy rain and winds. Customers may experience significant delays or disruptions and should allow for extra travel time, take extra caution when walking on platforms and stairs, watch for slippery conditions and be mindful for overhead foliage or wires."

PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION: Beacon Announces Reduced Public Transit Bus Service Schedule

In a recent announcement from Dutchess County Transit and the City of Beacon: effective Tuesday, March 24, Public Transit will reduce service.

ONLY the following routes will operate: E, J, K and L From 7 am to 4 pm.

That list does not include the G line, which is the free bus line that runs from the Metro-North train station up and around the Main Street area of Beacon. The G line has paused for now, as we are in the PAUSE Plan as issued for the whole state by Gov. Andrew Cuomo.

New Year's Eve Lyft Discount Available For Newburgh Pick-Ups and Drop-Offs

This New Year’s Eve, people using Lyft to get to or from a destination in Newburgh can get $10 off two rides, with a maximum of $10 per ride, thanks to an initiative put together by local officials and Lyft. Newburgh is one of three areas across New York State engaged in the effort, according to a press release issued today by Assemblymember Jonathan G. Jacobson’s office.

According to the press release: “Senator James Skoufis (D-Hudson Valley), Assemblymember Jonathan Jacobson (D-Newburgh), and City of Newburgh Mayor Torrance Harvey partnered with Lyft to provide discounted rides on New Year’s Eve to ensure riders in the City of Newburgh can access affordable, reliable transportation. The initiative is part of a shared commitment to reduce impaired driving as people celebrate the holiday season.”

How To Use The Lyft/Newburgh Discount

The discount is good from Tuesday, December 31, 2019, to Wednesday, January 1, 2020. Riders can use the promo code NEWBURGHNYE to receive $10 off two rides, with a maximum of $10 per ride. The code will work as long as one of the locations, drop-off or pick-up, is in the City of Newburgh. A rider must have the Lyft app installed on their phone, which they can get from their phone’s app store for free.
