It Was Spring-Like Today!  |  Retail Therapy Guide 2/10/2023

The original title of this email was "It's Valentine's Day Weekend!" And that was written by ALBB's Retail Editor, Teslie. When ALBB's publisher Katie read it, she cringed and blocked her eyes. Because Teslie is a newlywed and so much in love with her best friend, and Katie is in...a different place.

So once again, this triggers the ALBB Trivia Fact of Katie's old college newspaper column (did blogs exist then?) that was a love advice column called "Dear Trudy," where in her first column out the gate, she answered a male's question, where he asked: "I see the same girl every day on the sidewalk on our class schedule, and we always lock eyes. I just want to kiss her. Should I?" Trudy's answer was: "Yes!" which surprised most male readers. Obviously, that act could be taken the wrong way. That aside.

You get to have a Love Advice column here tonight on your Friday. Because you should have love. Even if you don't have love right now. The truth is, you may have told yourself long ago that love and real life do not mix. That the logic of real life could not withstand love. That love would confuse things. And make you not able to live a logical life.

If you said no to love many years ago, and closed yourself off, then I'm here to tell you that there is this thing called "working it out" and "being vulnerable," that therapists seem to know about, and people in Beacon seem to know about because they are tapped into things like that.

While we don't know how love works, it can be considered that if there is something pulling you to a centered place, that results in a desire to understand instead of a desire to be angry, then you may be on to something.

And if it doesn't work out. If you are from different worlds (hello, didn't anyone see The Little Mermaid?!), or if there is a block of some kind, and you can't have the love you feel, then at least you felt. And you tried. And if you cried, that's OK. Because crying, deep sobbing, is an orgasm of the heart that you needed.

Wishing you the smoothest Valentine's Day. Please do treat yourself no matter if you are also treating someone else or not.

What you'll find below is Teslie's original intro for this newsletter. Katie usually spends Valentine's Day at a book store :) And this holiday is one of her favorites. Teslie gives great advice below. Take her up on it.

* * *

Valentine's Day weekend is one of our favorites! It's the perfect excuse to finally make plans with your friends aka Galentine's Day, spend extra time with your significant other, and/or by yourself! Either way, there's definitely no shortage of things to do. Check out the prix fixe menus around town, snag the local chocolates from Håkan, Alps Sweet Shop, The Chocolate Studio or all of them, and treat yourself to something special - maybe a massage, a facial, manicure, or a new outfit, dance classes at Passion - The Adult Dance Studio... you deserve it! Don't forget* you can check out our Shopping Guide, Beauty Guide & Restaurant Guide to find these things easily!

TIN SHINGLE
New Template: Simple Social Content Planner
Content planning can take many forms. The organization of it can look very different before it makes it to a published platform. Tin Shingle's new Simple Social Content Planner is your monthly and weekly spreadsheet for when a certain post should be written. Looking at this Template is less-involved than looking at Planoly or Hubspot. The purpose it serves is to help you organize before you create a finished post to schedule at your social platforms of choice. For those unfamiliar with Planoly, this is a tool you can use to schedule and post finished Instagram posts in advance. It was created before Instagram allowed for scheduling within its own platform. Members of Tin Shingle can download this template for free. For everyone else, there is a one-time fee, and then unlimited access is available for when updates are published. This template is a companion to Tin Shingle’s more comprehensive Editorial Content Planner. Activate your membership with Tin Shingle today!

So excited to be able to redesign the website for both The Hudson Valley Food Hall and The Roosevelt Bar! Each food vendor is going to have a page, and we are devoting a section to what days of the week each vendor is open, and what’s on their menus. This will be a fun project that will leave us hungry but always full as the vendors! We will keep you in the loop as we tackle this project! Can't wait to share.
