Buckle Up: Roadwork On Fishkill Avenue Begins Again Monday, April 27th

Buckle up, Buttercup. Milling and paving begins again Monday April 27th along Fishkill Avenue between Blackburn and Prospect Street, the City of Beacon has announced. That area is in front of Ron’s Ice Cream and the Memorial Park Tot Park. “Work on Fishkill Avenue is anticipated to go through at least Wednesday, April 29th, after which repaving will begin between the dates of May 4th through 7th,” the City said. “Dates are weather dependent and subject to change, so updates will be posted as needed. Thank you for your patience while this important work is completed.”

This strip of road has been a highly contentious area since its last update because of the increased risk of being hit by a car ever since the 3 lanes of traffic were developed there last year.

At first, a crosswalk was not put down between Ron’s Ice Cream and the tot park. Then, after the public came to City Council Meetings to demand a crosswalk, former City Administrator Chris White walked it back to put temporary crosswalks in, and speed humps, blaming the striping design on the 20 year old planning of the Fishkill/Teller Avenue infrastructure update project that was implemented under his watch before he retired.

The danger of crossing the street continues, as the inner lane of traffic from from Rte. 52 may stop for a pedestrian attempting to cross, but the outer lane cannot see the pedestrian as well, especially if she is a short grandma. However, if a taller jogger stops to cross with the short grandma, the cars tend to see the tall person and consider stopping to let them cross.

Pictured here is a map of the area. Ron’s Ice Cream happens to not be on this map, but you know the area. Seems like Ron’s may need to update their Google settings, like Melzingah’s and the Roundhouse have done.
