These businesses disputed their property assessments, and the City of Beacon is agreeing lower their assessment and will refund some money.

7. Authorizing the City Administrator to Execute an Agreement with the County of Dutchess for Reimbursement for Short Term Rental Monitoring
City Councilmembers are pushing for the City of Beacon to enforce its legislation on Short Term Rentals, which various platforms like Airbnb. While the City Administrator Chris White has said in the past that he and the Building Inspector David Buckley view Beacon’s legislation as unenforceable, there is software that the City of Beacon can subscribe to and track properties to make enforcement easier. City Administrator Chris is recommending to use this software.

Highlights from this meeting:

  • Several changes to traffic regarding Fountain Square, East Main Street, possible new 3-way stop at the Dummy Light, a few new Stop signs in other places, and many other suggestions from the always busy Main Street Access Committee.

  • A bit of intro to the initial design plans for the Tompkins Hose Firehouse.

  • Discussion around which community organizations may be receiving funding from the City of Beacon. One interesting point was how the Howland Cultural Center did apply for funding, but the City Administrator was reluctant to give to them. ALBB has inquired with the Howland Cultural Center to confirm the reasons he stated.
