COMMITTEE MEMBER OPENING: Beacon Farmers Market Committee Members

The Beacon Farmers Market is seeking new Market Committee Members. Here’s your chance to support the Market and advocate for the change you would like to see. The mission of the Beacon Farmers Market is to feed and engage the Beacon community, support local farms and businesses and create a more just food system. The Market Committee is a group of volunteers who steer the Market and advise the Market Manager year-round.

REQUIREMENTS

  • Every Member is expected to attend 4 meetings a year to plan for the Indoor and Outdoor Market seasons and to officially select vendors for each season.

  • In addition, Members must join at least one Sub-Committee which allows individuals to tailor their involvement to their interests and specific skills. The Sub-committees focuses are:

    STEERING COMMITTEE
    Focused on larger partnerships, agenda-setting for Full Committee Meetings, lease agreements, permits and liability compliance, and additional concerns as decided by the Committee.

    FARMING & AGRICULTURE COMMITTEE
    Broadly responsible for looking out for the interests of the Farm Vendors, go on Farm Visits with the Market Manager, work on Farm recruitment each season, and additional concerns as decided by the Committee.

    FOOD JUSTICE COMMITTEE
    Focused on fulfilling the Food Justice component of the Market's Mission including coordination with partner organizations, looking out for the interests of Food Benefit users, and additional concerns as decided by the Committee.

    EDUCATION + ENTERTAINMENT
    Supporting the Market Manager in programming educational events and additional entertainment at the Market, engaging with related communities, and additional concerns as decided by the Committee.

    MARKETING + VISITOR SERVICES
    Take on expanding the customer base for the Market through marketing campaigns, at-market initiatives, engaging with the broader community, and additional concerns as decided by the Committee.

INTERESTED?

Looking for candidates who:

  • Live in, work in, or have an otherwise demonstrably deep connection to Beacon, NY.

  • Are regular attendees at the Beacon Farmers Market.

  • Have skills or expertise related to one of the subcommittees described above.

  • Can commit to 10+ in-person meetings a year.

  • Can commit to volunteering at a minimum of 2 Markets per/year to help with special projects as determined by the Committee.
